We approached Phil about a potential addition to our home through the recommendation of a friend, and we couldn’t be happier with the overall experience. With a new baby girl on the way, we needed an additional bedroom / play area and wanted to make some additions to our master bedroom, including an office, closet, etc. Not only did Phil make our vision a reality, he creatively gave us options that improved the look of the front of our house, and made sure we did not have to move out for any of the construction. Phil is patient and attentive to every detail, and is physically there to oversee the construction. His presence not only made the construction go quickly, it allowed Phil to handle our requests for changes along the way. Although we made some changes, Phil stayed within budget, but more importantly, completed the construction well ahead of schedule and the birth of our baby girl.

ln 1994, Phil Duffey of Horizon Homes of Tampa built a beautiful 5000 sq. ft. custom home for our family. From inception to completion the building of our home was a great experience. Working with Phil was a pleasure. Through the entire process of building he was always available to address a concern or answer a question. There was no middle-man; Phil was totally hands on! We especially appreciated his patience and expertise in solving those little issues that can pop up unexpectedly like when we decided that we needed a window where we had been so sure that we didn’t want one. So without hesitation, Phil made it happen! Phil’s years of experience and thorough knowledge of construction were obvious through every phase of construction. His sense of design was very helpful in planning little details in the home such as where to place a niche on a plain wall or where to add molding to make a foyer stand out. And to this day we are impressed with both the quality and attention to detail that is still evident in our home. But, life has changed and we are downsizing. lt is time for a new direction. We feel that it speaks volumes that after 20 years we have once again chosen Phil to design and build our next home. Phil has begun planning it with the same attention to detail and sense of enthusiasm that we recall from 20 years ago! Working with us and listening closely to our needs, Phil has taken our entire wish list and designed an imaginative floor plan that flows beautifully and has every amenity that we asked for. As we get ready to break ground we have total confidence in Phil and his ability to build our last dream home. We are looking forward to an exciting year!

My wife and I built a custom home with Phil Duffey, the owner of Horizon Homes of Tampa. This was our first time building a custom home and we did extensive research before picking Phil to build the house. Phil explained the process from start to finish. He helped develop our plans, assisted us with finding an architect and then took us step by step through the process. Unlike most builders, Phil was at the house during the building process nearly every day to personally oversee the project. He would often give us ideas about different structural design items that were not in the original plans. There was never a “change order” or some other manufactured way to get us to pay more money. Phil gave us flexibility to use our own subcontractors if we wanted to, but after meeting the people Phil has worked with for many years, we used each and every one of his people and found them to be very skilled. My wife and I found Phil to be very patient, informative, caring and professional throughout the building of our home. Phil finished the home in a timely fashion and with very few punch out items. Even after we moved in, Phil was always available to answer questions or to assist with punch out items that we learned about many months later. When you build a home with Horizon Homes of Tampa, you deal directly with Phil at every stage. We have recommended Phil to many friends and they have all had positive experiences. My wife and I are contemplating building another home and have already engaged Phil to build for us again. I would strongly recommend Horizon Homes if you are in the market to build a custom home.

After meeting with 4 or 5 local builders, it became clear that Phil Duffey was the only builder willing to spend time with us in an effort to develop our home design to meet our budget. Phil did this without any guarantee that we would use Horizon Homes of Tampa or build our home at all. We wanted to share some thoughts on our experience with the build of our house as we received a lot advice when we started to build our first custom home – advice on style, location, and most importantly, the Builder. Out of all the advice, one thing held true, one point stood out in mind: during the building process you will spend a lot of time with your Builder, more than you do with your best friend. You had better trust and like your Builder because they will be your best friend through this whole process. We interviewed a lot of builders and there were key characteristics that separated Phil from the others.
Phil was the only builder that both owned the company and performed the general site supervision. He was at our house every day and was involved in every aspect of the build, from foundation through the final cabinetry and appliance installations.
As part of the process, you will make changes, and Phil was able to guide us with honest quotes, good advice and clear explanations. These changes, which every build will have, are a significant part of the process and your trust of the Builder is imperative. We never questioned Phil’s integrity and guidance through each of these.
Finally, we brought Phil in during the design process with the architect, which was invaluable. His expertise in design and years of building was crucial in making the right decisions early in the process before we headed down difficult or costly paths.
Overall, our relationship and respect for Phil increased from the start of the project through the punch list, Phil was always accessible and remains in contact today.

I highly recommend Phil Duffey and Horizon Homes of Tampa for anyone considering any home building or remodeling project. My wife and I hired Horizon Homes to build our dream home and have been very satisfied with the process and the end result.
